Best Skills for New Hires

Nicole Halper, coordinating producer at Innovative in Indianapolis, shared three great ideas for what college students should master in their professional lives:

1.  Writing skills.  Learn to produce professional writing at all levels.  From a simple email to major projects she says being able to draft professional communication is a key to success in the workplace.

2.  Willingness to participate.  Be engaged in your work and your team.  Share your ideas.  Be part of the conversations around you.

3.  Learning to learn.  While a classical liberal arts education provides this in spades the key is to develop your learning skills.  The ability to learn and implement new skills quickly is among the most valuable skill you can bring to a job.
